Donald Henry Barrett~ entered into rest at Caressant Care McLaughlin Nursing Home, Lindsay on Monday January, 9th 2017 at the age of 90. Don was the beloved husband for 65 years to Ruth Lytle. Loving father of Cheryl and her husband Herb Gamble, Cindy and her husband Brian Hunt and Doug and his wife Julie. Cherished grandpa of Kelsey, Carrie Mark Hunt and Rebecca Gamble. Dear brother of Ted. Predeceased by sister Betty Delong and her husband Don also sister-in-law Norma Barrett. Born in Peterborough Don joined the Canadian Armed Forces when he was 17 year old. He served both in the Army and Air Force. After the war he worked at Peterborough Automotive Supplies, then moved to Lindsay where the family has lived for 50 years. He was manager of Bowes and Cocks and ran the 3 Real estate offices in Lindsay, Fenelon Fall and Bobcaygeon. He was the first President of the Lindsay Real Estate Board. Don became President of the Lindsay Kinsmen Club in 1963-64, enjoying curling and golfing in Lindsay for many years. Don was an elder for 8 years at Cambridge Street United Church. He loved his fishing days and his cottage on Lovesick Lake as well as the many golfing friends he made in Florida after his retirement. Interment of cremated remains will take place in January at a family service. A public celebration of Don’s life will be held later in the spring.
