Obituary for James "Barry" Dales

James "Barry" Dales
James Barry Dales
March 28, 1935 – March 30, 2017
James Barry Dales passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2017 with family by his bedside. He leaves behind his beloved wife Joan. They were married for 56 years. Two sons, Ian (Krista) and Kevin (Caroline) and four cherished granddaughters, Sarah, Rachel, Shannon and Melody completed the family.
His brother Kenneth predeceased him in 2010. Survived by his wife Shirley and their children, Michelle and Stephen. Mary Lu MacDonald, his cousin from Halifax visited last summer. She brought pieces of family history to share and appreciate – it was a nostalgic time.
Predeceased by his parents Meryl and Eldon Dales – survived by his stepmother Phyllis.
His sister-in-law Yvonne Parr spoke fondly of the good times that were shared with her late husband Robert.
Nieces, Shauna (Kyra and Kyle), Cheryl (Kurtis) and Karen (Jason) (Ryan and Mia) remember games of croquet and bocce – lots of laughter and friendly competition at the lake.
Best friends and neighbours Shelley and Roy McCartney and sons Jeff and Gary were an integral part of our lives at the lake.
Upon moving to Lindsay in 2001, Barry became involved in lawn bowling. Pat and John Burrows (sister-in-law and brother-in-law) introduced him to the sport and he immersed himself in the tournaments both at home and away. It was a special time for him and he wished he had more years to enjoy it.
Upon graduation from the University of Toronto. Barry began his working career at British American Oil, which became Gulf Oil then Petro Canada. He retired in 1990 – after that, holidays were taken in Portugal, California and Florida. Many years prior to that, camping trips were very popular with young sons especially when it involved a body of water, a boat and a fishing pole. They had the best company on most of the trips – Pat and John Burrows and their two girls, Cheryl and Karen.
Time to close the chapter on Barry, however his integrity, dedication to what was right and perseverance will always remain with us.
All our love
Barry’s wishes were for cremation, no visitation or funeral service. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
