Obituary for Margaret Joan Smith (MacKenzie)

Margaret Joan Smith (MacKenzie)
Margaret Joan Smith (Mackenzie) born September 29, 1929 in York County, Toronto passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in her 88th year at Ross Memorial hospital. “Joan” as she was known married Gordon Ennis Smith on May 3rd, 1952. Joan and Gord enjoyed married life in their home in Scarborough on Benstanton Blvd. Here they nested, enjoyed their friends and it was here that they had their beloved West Highland terrier “Chatty” who was the centre of their lives. Joan worked for many years for CUPE as office manager. Her varied interests included skating, boating, music, travelling and animals. They enjoyed boating for a time at Lefroy Harbour before moving to Cameron on the lake and then commuting to a Florida home. After this Heritage Way became their home in Lindsay, Ontario. Joan and Gord side by side enjoyed 67 years together. Sadly missed by her special friends Grace and Don. Fondly remembered by Erica, Mary, nephew Gordon Sellen, niece Heather Derry and their families as well as many cousins and friends. A sincere thank you to Dr. Jones and the nurses on third floor and the caring friends and staff at Adelaide Place for taking excellent care of our beloved Joan. Donations in Joan’s memory to a charity of your choice. As per Joan’s wishes there will be no service.”
